"What we make–it's like a thumbprint. You can't ever match it to something else."

MATT'S STORY
I grew up around tools. My great-grandfather, Harvey, was a homebuilder in Columbus, and he apprenticed as a carpenter. I inherited Harvey's tools, so I've always leaned towards doing stuff with my hands.
I was fortunate enough to have a best friend who’s a cabinet maker, so I learned a lot from him. For ten years I worked with him and a handful of other contractors that would manage a job and call me up and say, “Hey, we need some labor” and I’d say, “Okay, we’ll come build it.” I’d have 3 or 4 employees come with me, and we’d get it done.
There were plenty of lean years. Money was tight more than once, and nothing about building a career felt smooth or predictable. My wife, Ashley, worked in healthcare and later moved into medical coding, eventually landing a remote job that helped steady things at home when times were rough. That stability gave me the room to keep pushing forward in carpentry.
Somewhere along the way, I realized I had built more than just experience — I had built a business. I used to be in sales, I hate sales, but here I am selling myself every day. The difference is now? This isn’t a pitch. I just show people what I love to do, and it’s awesome to see when they love it, too. What we make–it's like a thumbprint. You can't ever match it to something else.
